Join us in celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Salmon Creek Farm revival by making a financial contribution to support our growing slate of Salmon Creek Arts programs. On November 10, 2014, artist Fritz Haeg acquired a former commune, complete with eight cabins nestled among 33 acres of coastal redwoods in Mendocino County, California. This project has blossomed into an all-consuming labor of love, with Fritz nurturing the land, gardens, and structures alongside an ever-growing community of artists; over 1,600 individuals have been welcomed so far.

To build on this foundation, Fritz founded Salmon Creek Arts as a non-profit in 2023, driven by three compelling reasons:

1. Fostering Artistic Engagement, providing artists from all disciplines with innovative ways to address pressing issues of climate and community, ensuring that their voices resonate in meaningful ways.

2. Removing Financial Barriers, ensuring that all artists can participate, regardless of their financial situation, we create an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives can thrive.

3. Establishing Sustainability, creating an independent, self-sustaining arts organization capable of taking over Salmon Creek Farm, ensuring its future as a vibrant hub for creativity.

This year we launched our inaugural Salmon Creek Arts programs with a BIPOC artist retreat in August lead by curator Erin Cristovale and artist EJ Hill and in October we welcomed our first cohort of Salmon Creek Artists, selected from over 500 applicants. We also introduced the Millipede Monthly newsletter featuring stories from the land.

Looking ahead to 2025, Salmon Creek Arts takes over year round programming of the land. Stay tuned for more details, which we’ll be announcing in January.

As we celebrate this decade milestone, we are reminded of a guiding principle that has shaped Salmon Creek Farm: each visitor contributes to the future for those who come after them. We chop wood in summer for others to burn in winter; we plant seeds in spring that others will harvest in autumn. You can help continue this legacy by making a gift to support Salmon Creek Arts in honor of our ten-year anniversary.

🌈

Salmon Creek Arts offers land-based arts programs in a sanctuary of precious riparian and coastal redwood habitat on Central Pomo land. We aim to continually expand the views and voices informing our activities and broaden the range of folks coming to the land, lowering barriers wherever possible to those who feel drawn to visit. As a queer owned and run space, it has a special sense of sanctuary for those who often don’t feel safe or welcome in rural spaces, especially BIPOC and LGBTQ+ folks.
